On November 9, 2016, South Korean President Park Geun-hye was impeached and resigned because a close friend of hers used their friendship to gain private benefits. Earlier this year on August 31, Chile's female president Dilma Rousseff was also impeached and resigned. A scandal involving an energy company she previously chaired had occurred, and the Dutch used bribery to obtain contracts for offshore oil and gas exploration with Petrobras. Although much evidence suggested that Rousseff was not involved in the scandal, she was still impeached.

North of Korea, the brotherly country, carried out its fifth nuclear test a month before President Park's resignation. This time, the explosive yield of the test was approximately one ton of TNT. Additionally, North Korea tested its nuclear weapon delivery vehicle, a ballistic missile. While it could not pose a threat to the United States mainland, it could target South Korea and Japan. This situation has made the efforts of the U.S. in waging war or exerting restraint against rogue states seem futile, or worse, wasteful of military resources with little成效。

The comparison between South Korea and North Korea, and between China and Taiwan, illustrates the functional differences of the same language in different social structures. It seems that a text cannot choose on its own whether it is meant to deceive and enslave思想还是成为现代文明的载体, 而中国和简体中文则明显倾向于走向朝鲜的方向。 note: "思想" is directly translated as "thought," but in this context, it might be better understood if left untranslated or provided with an English explanation.

In that year, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Colombian President Juan Santos, who had vowed during his first election in 2010 to defeat the guerrilla group FARC, which had been at war with government forces for half a century. However, during his presidency, he changed his mind and began peace negotiations, until August of that year, when both parties finally reached an agreement containing six key points. Initially, people were excited about it, but then it was harshly criticized by the previous president and rejected in a national referendum. Santos did not stop there; he demonstrated the qualities of an excellent politician by persistently vowing and being adaptable, and reached another peace agreement at the end of November. The biggest change in the new plan might be that it no longer requires a national referendum but can be approved directly by Congress. Regardless, people look forward to the effects of this plan, as long-term civil war has already claimed the lives of tens of thousands.
