1961年苏联试爆了五千万吨级氢弹， 名为沙皇， Tsar, 爆破力瞬间击穿大气层， 大部分能量浪费在太空中。 后来人们猜测制造核冬天完全不需要这么大的核爆炸， 用核弹点燃十来座人口密集的城市就足够了， 这一理论当然在核大战真的爆发之前都无法验证。
In 1961, the Soviet Union tested a hydrogen bomb with a yield of fifty million tons, named Tsar Bomba.
The blast instantly pierced through the atmosphere, most of its energy wasted in space.
Later, people speculated that creating a nuclear winter did not require such massive nuclear explosions;
igniting nuclear bombs over a dozen densely populated cities would be sufficient.
Of course, this theory could not be verified before an actual nuclear war broke out.
